Dont start by criticizing their choices. Make sure the learner feels safe and supported by you.
Be patient, encouraging, and supportive. Celebrate small successes to build confidence.
Gently ask how they are doing academically and emotionally. Show you care, especially their well-being
Help them remember their ambitions. Ask what they want to achieve in life and how current distractions may affect that. Offer extra support towards their dreams.
Use real-life examples of how early relationships can impact studies if not managed wisely, but avoid scaring them
If they are already in a relationship, guide them on how to balance schoolwork and emotions, rather than forcing them to quit it instantly
Sometimes they listen better to someone else, especially a trained counsellor or trusted mentor.
Introduce them to people (even through stories or videos) who succeeded by staying focused.
Let guardians know discreetly or parents should find out quietly, so they can reinforce guidance at home.
